Location of tropical rainforests.
Tropical rainforests lie between the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer – they are located near the equator. Fifty seven percent of all tropical rainforests are found in Latin America. One third of the world’s tropical rainforests are in Brazil. Other tropical rainforests are located in Southeast Asia and West Africa. Tropical rainforests are most likely to be found along the equator due to preferable conditions found there. There is more direct sunlight hitting the land and sea along the equator than anywhere else in the world, and therefore it is very warm, making it able to support the humid and vegetative conditions of the tropical rainforest. Rainforests now cover less than 6% of the Earth’s land surface due to deforestation.
